Starting at three o'clock in the afternoon today, an event called 'Food Bank' will be held for the sixth time in the largest Lithuanian supermarkets. During the event, which will last throughout the coming weekend, Lithuanian citizens are encouraged to buy nonperishable food items and donate them for families in need.
According to Deimantė Žebrauskaitė, the director of the Food Bank charity and relief fund, the event will also take place in smaller stores in the largest supermarket chains.
Similar food drives are currently occurring in many European countries.
