| History. 1948 - Teacher's Institute (duration of studies - two years), since 1954 - Pedagogical Institute. 1959 - Affiliate of Kaunas Polytechnical Institute, since 1990 - Siauliai Polytechnical Faculty of Kaunas University of Technology. Type. It is a university of a classical type. The University has 8 faculties: Education Natural Sciences Humanities (with European Studies Institute) Mathematics and Informatics Arts Social Sciences Social Welfare and Disability Studies Technology There is 1 institute - Continuing Studies Institute. Management. The supreme decision making body of the University is the Senate. University's Council - the institution responsible for social supervision and care. Studies are organizsed in three cycles: first cycle or the main studies - Bachelor's degree and Professional studies, second cycle - Special Professional studies and Master's degree, and third cycle - Doctoral studies. Full-time, part-time and extramural types of studies are available. At present the University has over 12 000 students and more than 550 lecturers. Scientific researches are being carried out in areas such as: humanities, physics, biomedical technology and social sciences. The University operates the Biomedical Engineering Centre, Biological Research Center, Educational Researches Scientific Centre, Energy and Ecologically Clean Technologies Centre, Modelling of Physical Processes Centre, Art Criticism Centre, Natural Science Education Center, Social Research Scientific Centre, Special Education Scientific Centre, Public Health Education Scientific Centre, Technological Experiments Centre. There is Science and Technology Park, Distance Studies Centre, Siauliai University Gymnasium. In 2005 European Studies' Institute was established in the Faculty of Humanities (connecting Research centres of Dialect Studies, Cultural Anthropology, Northern Lithuania History, and cultural Centres of American and British Studies, French, Russian, Swedish and Swiss). Moreover, in 2005 after the reorganisation of Women Studies' Centre, Gender Studies' Institute was established. Project management is one of underlying activities in Siauliai University since 1997. Project management group was established in 2004. Currently, Siauliai University is participating in 25 international projects and in 24 EU Structural Funds projects (8 projects are coordinated by Siauliai University).
